I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to all who supported my effort to become your next County Legislator. The decisive victory on Election Day could not have happened without the tremendous support and encouragement I received from all areas of the District. Thank you all so much! Westchester is the highest taxed County in the country. During these tough economic times, our representatives in government have an obligation to find ways to reduce the tremendous burden on taxpayers.
County government spending continues to escalate, putting tremendous pressure on taxpayers. We need new leadership and new voices who can bring a fresh new look on how County government provides the services that only the County can deliver.
As your County Legislator, I will work to consolidate services, eliminate wasteful spending, and improve efficiency – things I have achieved during my years of public service.
Seven years ago, when elected Mayor of Peekskill, I inherited a fiscal challenge similar to what we face today. Through my leadership, I was able to restructure government, decrease spending, and increase services. By the beginning of my third term, the NY State Comptroller’s office had declared Peekskill one of the most fiscally sound municipalities in the State. The policies I helped enact led to lower taxes, an increased fund balance, and an unprecedented 0% tax increase for three years in a row. Moody’s increased the credit rating of Peekskill at the end of my administration, citing my policies and achievements as the reason.
I have demonstrated that it is possible to be fiscally responsible while at the same time improving the quality of life for everyone, cutting the crime rate nearly in half, adding to the tax base, creating jobs, increasing recreational opportunities, preserving open space, and instituting eco-friendly policies.
I love Northern Westchester. I was born here, work here and raised my children here. My father’s family came to Peekskill over 100 years ago and my mother’s to the Town of Cortlandt 90 years ago. This area is where I want to stay and hope that my children can afford to live.
I want to be your representative on the County Board of Legislators because I want to bring my passion for our area, my experience in government and my commitment to the future, to County government. I want to work hard for all residents of Peekskill, Cortlandt and Yorktown to make Westchester a County in which we and our children and future generations can afford to live and enjoy the quality of life we all deserve.
